Welcome to Riverwood

After a very mild winter, spring is upon us at Riverwood and the park is alive.  The Sugar Maple sap is flowing, the emergence of Snowdrops, flocks of Sand Hill Cranes migrating overhead, Red Tail Hawks experiencing the rhythmic mating dance and Red-winged Blackbirds filling the air with the songs of spring.  Downie, hairy, red bellied and pilated woodpeckers produce drumming sounds as they peck into Riverwood trees and can be seen frequently visiting the bird feeders along the Scotts Wild Bird TREK and behind Chappell House.

As spring develops, plants wake up and push through the soft earth, long shoots, so lovely and lush.  Pollinators are coming out of hibernation may be spotted searching for nectar from budding wildflowers.

Spring and Gardening go together!  Workshops are planned for beginners and experts alike.  Riverwood invites the Mississauga community of all backgrounds, to experience the joy of gardening.  Whether you are a homeowner with a large or small property or a condominium or apartment dweller, we have a workshop for you!  Come and join us for tips on container gardening, organic and native plant information, composting, mulching, lawn care, vegetable gardening and more.

The 200th year of the War of 1812 will be celebrated at Riverwood with a series of events in May and June.  Riverwood is honored to be able to recreate an era with such a rich history to our country.

Fascinate yourself and look to the beauty of the night skies with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RSAC) on the front lawn of the Chappell House.
