Of the three species of bears native to this part of the world, Black Bears: A Natural History focuses on the black bear and contains over 200 full-colour photographs, maps and charts. It introduces the reader to this shy, reclusive and largely misunderstood animal with an authoritative look at the world of the North American black bear. The book provides an examination of the bears' diet, dens, mating habits, habitat, hibernation and their adaptation to the encroachment of civilization into their territory. Valuable advice on camping in bear country and a lesson about what to do when human beings encounter bears in the wilderness are also offered.

Deer World explores a year in the life of deer and other animals such as wolves and bears.  The book features over 400 remarkable images of North American deer species in their natural habitat and focuses on their beauty, shapes and sizes.  The photographs are arranged by month and day and accompanied by informative captions that offer notes on the animal, its behaviour, the role it plays within its local ecosystem, and where and when it can best be viewed.  You will find some photos are of deer taken right on the Riverwood property!

Wildflowers of Riverwood
Details
TRC is delighted to present its first field guide on the flora of Riverwood and the greater Toronto area. The book includes a remarkable collection of high-resolution images, useful information and an easy-to-use cross-indexing system. 

What makes Wildflowers of Riverwood unique?  The book includes:

    * One hundred fifty plant species from 50 families found at Riverwood         and along the Culham Trail
    * Wildflowers arranged by flower colour
    * Anecdotes on the folklore of the plants
    * Location on the property and bloom time
    * References to native or non-native origin of the wildflowers, useful
       for establishing native gardens
    * Resources for native plant nurseries
    * An index to plant families accompanied by a short description
    * Common English and French name plus Latin scientific names, all indexed for easy navigation
    * Spring, summer and fall wildflower charts which take the reader on a virtual tour of Riverwood through the
       different seasons

Co-authored by Nina Katalin Barabas, PhD and Eva Sabrina Bruni, Wildflowers of Riverwood was created entirely by volunteers and received strong public support for its production.  It is truly a project by the community for the community.

Predators-cover

Predators of North America
Details
Predators of North America explores a year in the life of North America's predators including wolves, grizzlies, black bears, coyotes and red fox. The book features over 300 images of North America's predators often interacting with their prey species. Taylor's captions provide insight into the role predators play in the ecosystem. Readers will be surprised by how much new information there is about the role these animals play in a healthy ecosystem. As in Deer World, the photographs are arranged by month so that photographers and naturalists can use the book as a guide to planning their next trip to the wild. A number of photos were taken at Riverwood. These include images of red-tailed hawks, Cooper's hawks, red fox and coyote.
